Obstacle Limitation Surface Analysis


Haritaevi has extraordinary expertise in the development & deployment of Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) software applications. To assist and enable Deep Analytics of AIM for the Turkish General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MSB) in 2015, we designed and implemented the web portal www.obstacleanalyze.com to allow human and machine users to browse, select and visualize terrain & obstacles around an airport, and their potential Obstacle Limiting Surface (OLS) impact.

We serve Airport Obstacle Limitation Surfaces and Building Restricted Areas for Navaids as Web Map Service (WMS).

Aviation safety begins and ends at the ground. Regulating and monitoring obstacles is crucial for safe operations. Therefore, there are several limitations for human made obstacles such as buildings around airports. These limitations cannot guarantee an obstacle-free airspace by its own. Awareness of both stake holders, regulation makers, constructors and municipalities is a must.

ObstacleAnalyze aims to increase safety by raising awareness about obstacle limitations on the surface and manage obstacles around airports via a single portal.

If the location of your query via ObstacleAnalyze is within any airport Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS), the ground level and building elevation permitted by ICAO standards (ICAO Annex 14 Obstacle Limitation Surface) will be calculated online. *(Please pay attention to ObstacleAnalyze coverage. Turkey -all airports-, Latvia, Malaysia and Brazil -sample airports-)

The program gives you information on how many meters high you can build from sea level and ground, in accordance with Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) and other restrictions on the points you will click, in the area within the Obstacle Limitation Surfaces.

In the “Construction Criteria” tab in the pop-up window for the point you click, within the scope of an airport Obstacle Limitation Surfaces from Turkey examples, the restrictions are explained according to the local legislation of Turkey SHGM (CAA). For example, in areas within the protection surfaces of navigational aids, it is necessary to obtain permission from the Turkish ANSP.

In addition, if you want to see an example of Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) protection surfaces, please choose one of the Çanakkale or Hakkari Airports from the list.
